About Westwood House Residential Home

Westwood House Residential Home is situated in the picturesque market town of Ashby-de-la-Zouch. This splendid, 3-storey Victorian house is set within an acre of land, with its own secluded gardens to the front, side and rear of the property. There is ample parking for visitors.

The home is conveniently placed within a short stroll of Ashby town centre, which includes a wide variety of restaurants, bars and shops. The town has a medieval castle, museum and many other attractions, making it a popular destination to visit. Many of our more able residents enjoy visits to the town centre and the surrounding countryside, which is in abundance.

Visiting

Family members and friends are welcome to visit as and when they wish. Drinks and snacks are always available, and we are happy to provide meals for visitors by prior arrangement.

Home and Grounds

The range of accommodation consists of single rooms, with a small number of companion rooms for those wishing to share. Residents are encouraged to bring their own possessions and furniture to make their room as homely as possible. Westwood House Residential Home normally accommodates residents on a long-term basis, although some residents may be accepted for short-term respite stays. It is registered for 16 residents.

The co-ordination of colours in furnishings, carpets and fabrics throughout Westwood House Residential Home helps to create a pleasant ambience. We take pride in our home's appearance, and in its warm and nurturing atmosphere. There are two large, welcoming lounges and a dining room with a seating area.

The privacy and independence of our residents is respected at all times. Our home is your home.

I came to visit someone in the home I used to look after in the community I was pleased to see that he was being well looked after and very happy after all the upset he had had before it was nice to see a smile on his face again. The staff were very pleasant to me welcoming and are obviously looking after him well as he didn't bond well to new people the home is a lovely home I thought and looks well run, clean tidy and overall really a pleasant environment I would recommend my own family to go there. ” ~ Helen S (Friend of Resident), on Friday 16 November 2018.

Personal Care

Our 24-hour staffing ensures that personal assistance with washing, dressing, bathing and toileting needs is always available. All rooms have a care call system.

Local General Practitioners visit the home when required, as do the District Nurses. Care plans are prepared after consultation with the resident, family and carers and can be tailored to individual needs.

Staffing

The home is staffed in accordance with the Registering Authority. It is our policy to provide an exceptionally high quality of care, underpinned by our exceptional standards of training. This ensures that care and skills are kept at the highest level.

Our dedicated care assistants are all qualified or working towards an NVQ in Health and Social Care, in accordance with the Commission for Social Care Inspection’s minimum standards.

Medicines

All medicines are administered by trained carers, and are ordered on a GP’s prescription.

Meals

Our experienced kitchen staff offer a wide variety of nutritionally balanced quality home-cooked meals. We display our menus in advance, and cater for all types of dietary needs. Meals are a leisurely experience so that our residents can eat at their own individual pace.

Breakfast is an individual daily choice. Our residents can order anything from a glass of juice to a cooked breakfast, and it is offered from the earliest time of rising to the latest.

Domestic Services

All rooms are serviced and cleaned daily.

Chiropody

We have a visiting chiropodist, who will attend to the residents’ feet where needed. This service is billed separately, and is not included in the fee.

Physiotherapy

As part of each care package, exercise, mobility and independence are maintained by our own staff. Should the need arise, a referral to a physiotherapist via a GP will be made for more intense treatments.

Toiletries

Toiletries are not included in the fees.

Newspapers

Any newspapers or magazines can be provided from our local newsagent at the residents’ own cost.

Hairdressing

Our staff includes a fully qualified hairdresser, who attends to our residents needs. A small charge may be made for this service.

Laundry service

Laundry is included in the fee of the home. However we do not undertake the washing of pure wool, hand knitted or thermalactyl garments. Prior to admission all clothing should be clearly marked with sewn in labels to guard against loss. Basic mending is included in the fees.

Entertainment

Westwood House offers plenty of activities with the aim of keeping mind and body active. We have a keyboard in one of our lounges, which the residents and their visitors enjoy playing and using for singalong sessions.

Our staff members are always delighted to help with the continuance of residents’ hobbies, or with the learning of new interests and skills. The staff members happily play games and arrange activities with the residents during the afternoons.
